Dr. Gizeaddis is an Associate Professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering at Jimma University, Ethiopia, the Director of University-Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer, and the team leader of the AI & Biomedical Imaging Research Group. Can you share more about your research focus and discuss any notable advancements or pressing issues currently affecting your area of study?

Dr. Gizeaddis’ research focuses on the development of MRI/MRS technologies, particularly on motion-corrected edited MRS pulse sequences aimed at studying brain metabolite levels in children.  He has also pioneered the use of machine learning and deep learning to detect diseases such as breast cancer, lung cancer, and heart disease. A pressing issue in his area of study includes the challenge of improving accuracy in motion correction for MRI/MRS in pediatric populations, which requires innovative solutions like those he is developing.

How do you ensure that you remain impartial and objective in your reviews?

Dr. Gizeaddis likely ensures impartiality and objectivity in his reviews by drawing from his extensive academic and research background, staying grounded in evidence-based practices, and relying on peer-reviewed data and well-established protocols. His involvement in supervising numerous students and collaborating with internationally renowned experts suggests that he has cultivated a strong sense of academic integrity and commitment to unbiased evaluations.

What steps can be taken to improve the peer-review process to ensure it better aligns with the needs and expectations of today’s researchers?

Increasing transparency in reviews, providing more constructive feedback, and reducing review times could better align the process with current researchers’ needs.
