Reviewer of the month March 2023: Dr. Ognjen Barcot

02-03-2023

We proudly announce that the Reviewer of the Month Award for March 2023 goes to Ognjen Barcot, MD.

As a means to promote the hard work and dedication invested “behind the scenes” to improve scientific publications, each month, BiomolBiomed Editors select a reviewer who performed the best amongst all the reviewers in the current month. Selection is based on the quality, thoroughness, and timeliness of the review. It is a difficult task for our Editors, as they try not to underestimate the time and efforts of each of the reviewers who reviewed for the BiomolBiomed in the current month.

Dr. Ognjen Barcot is a surgeon at the University Hospital of Split, Croatia.

He researches methodology in addition to clinical practice. His passion is mathematics, which is of great use to him in his work. Dr. Barcot says mathematical skills can be valuable in areas such as data analysis, statistical modeling and surgical planning. Surgery and mathematics are both a source of pride and fulfillment for him.

We asked Dr. Barcot about the importance and other aspects of peer-review in general:

Peer review is a critical part of the publication process. Sometimes reviewers are stuck with just emphasizing the weaknesses (or rarely strengths) of someone else’s work. But as reviewers, our part is not to judge the work of others, but primarily ensure all interested audiences understand it. Of course, if the work does not lack common sense. Secondly, and more importantly, feedback must be constructive to ensure clarity and preserve the original authors’ mind- and work-flow.

BiomolBiomed congratulates Dr. Ognjen Barcot and wishes him many awards and recognitions in the future.
