Reviewer of the month July 2022

26-07-2022

We are proud to announce that the Reviewer of the Month Award for July 2022 goes to Stephan Weibelzahl, MD PhD.

As a means to promote the hard work and dedication invested “behind the scenes” in order to improve scientific publications, each month, BJBMS Editors select a reviewer who performed the best amongst all the reviewers in the current month. Selection is based on the quality, thoroughness, and the timeliness of the review. It is a difficult task for our Editors, as they try not to underestimate the time and efforts of each of the reviewers who reviewed for the BJBMS in the current month.

Dr. Stephan Weibelzahl, professor of Business-Psychology at Private University of Applied Sciences Goettingen, has a particular research interest in investigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of nurses and physicians.

We asked Dr. Weibelzahl about the importance and other aspects of the peer-review process in general:

While peer review has its flaws, it’s the best known procedure for keeping up the quality of scientific publications. I see it as a constructive feedback process rather than a criterion-based quality check. Science is thriving when ideas are debated and when researchers get a chance to test and rework their suggestions.

BJBMS congratulates Stephan Weibelzahl, MD PhD, and wishes him many awards and recognitions in the future.
